I will shortly be looking to buy a used Jimny, probably 2005-2010 age wise for road and light off-road use.
I see Cotswold Jimnys seem to have a good selection.
Has anyone any comments about them or alternatively suggest others.
I'm in Kent but could travel for the right one.

Many thanks in advance,
John

Based on my own experience, if I should buy another Jimny, I would be looking for a 2004 for nicer seats, m13 engine, better gearbox, AC, or a later than 2009 for the facelift, and better gearbox.. Early for off-road, and later for daily driver. 05 to 09 has had some gearbox issues.

And welcome to the forum! :)

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

So pre 2005 or post 2009?
If I go for an auto (not sure yet) does this still apply?
Thanks.

No, the auto gearbox is totally different in an auto and you would be ok with your original year range, but stick to Yakuza's years for manuals. The gearbox you want to avoid is the "R72" from years 2005-2009 (revised bearings & prop after 2009 solved the R72 problems I think).

Convertible ones my be different tho for some reason.

Have a look in the wiki links at the top of the page for buying guides and common problems to look at when viewing ;-)

Pickup/tipper, R7me gearbox & 6.4 Rocklobster, 31" Toyo MT, 2x ARB air locker 3.9 diffs in braced axles, 6" total lift, Floating rear conversion, Raptor painted, CB, Recaro's, Caged, etc, etc...

Thank you both.
This gives me somewhere to start looking.
The only 4X4 I've had was an old series 2 landrover years ago so am a newbie at Jimnys.
Just want something smaller now to get me down a farm track and field and as a local runaround.
All advice gratefully received!
Cheers
John

They're just up the road from me in Blockley.
I went over to their establishment a couple of times when I was searching for a suitable car, and while they seem to have plenty of stock they were very scathing about the convertible variants (and didn;'t have any ) "Wouldn't touch em with a barge-pole" attitude - so I took my business elsewhere.

The next time I looked they had three convertible examples for sale.
The term 'Muppets' sprang to mind.

Other than that I have had no dealings with them.

IF IT AINT BROKE, KEEP FIXING IT UNTIL IT IS
